The Replica of the ‘Holy Veil of Manoppello’ Enthroned at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija
The ‘Holy Veil of Manoppello’ enthroned in the Immaculate Conception Parish in Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija is a replica of the ‘One and Only, Unique and Most Precious Relic of the Resurrection’ kept for centuries at the Basilica del Santo Volto in Manoppello, Italy.
The replica given by the Rector of the Basilica del Volto Santo to the Parish Priest of the Immaculate Conception and is now enthroned in the Parish Church is the only replica enthroned outside the Basilica del Volto Santo.
Other images of the “Veil of Manoppello” going around since its arrival in the Philippines are but enlargement and copies of the replica and/or of the original.
The ‘Veil of Manoppello’ donated by the Rector of the Basilica del Volto Santo is a special sign of missionary promotion through the kindness of the Alzate Family who requested a replica to be venerated in the Parish of Nampicuan. Thus, it was a simple gesture of bond and benevolence on the part of the Rector to the faithful of the small town; for this reason, any kind of documentation is deemed superfluous.
There are countless episodes of healing, miracles and favors recorded since the arrival of the Holy Veil to the small town of Manoppello starting from the 16th century. The miraculous phenomenon still continues to date.
The Veil has a mysterious origin. There is no direct evidence indicating that the ‘Veil of Manoppello’ was the one used by the pious woman popularly known as Veronica in wiping the face of the Lord on the way to Golgotha. However, recent developments on research and investigations conducted by Italian and foreign scholars illustrate that the ‘Veil of Manoppello’ was the ‘sudarium’ found by the Apostles, St. John and St. Peter, inside the tomb where the Lord was buried and where He rose from the dead.
